Poland & Spain will host Sailing World

World Sailing has selected Valencia, Spain, and Gdynia, Poland, to host the 2026-27 Sailing World Championships, adopting a split format for the first time. Valencia will host the one-person events in summer 2026, while Gdynia will host the two-person events in summer 2027. This championship will be the first qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and will include Para Inclusive sailing events.

Valencia is renowned for its year-round sailing conditions and history of hosting major international competitions, such as the America's Cup. The Real Club Náutico Valencia (RCNV) has been promoting sailing since 1903 and aims to become a global regatta base for dinghy sailing. Gdynia, celebrating its centenary, has a rich maritime heritage and is growing as a sailing hub. The Polish Yachting Association has been developing the annual Gdynia Sailing Days festival for 25 years.

Both cities were chosen from six bids and will host a Test Event up to 12 months before the championships, aligning with World Sailing’s Olympic Vision. The split format is designed to enhance the sport’s growth, efficiency, and sustainability. The events in Valencia and Gdynia will be organized in collaboration with local and national partners. The event slate includes various categories for men, women, and mixed teams, with final approval pending from the International Olympic Committee.
